Same stone.
Three more hands in the middle.
How it usually works
- Our factory workshop makes it
- plus a distributor takes a cut
- plus the brand takes another
- plus the showroom's rent goes on top
equals that’s what you get quoted
How it works with us
- Our factory workshop makes it
equals that’s what you pay
Usually 20–30% less than a showroom for the same certified stone. Same look, one less margin.

Comparing jewellers: what actually separates them
Almost every jewellery shop in Mumbai is a retailer. They buy finished pieces from a manufacturer, put them in a display case on rented retail frontage, and sell them with a margin on top that covers the rent, the staff and the stock sitting unsold. That is a real service and there is nothing wrong with it — but it is worth knowing that it is what you are paying for, because it is most of the difference between two quotes on the same stone.
We are the manufacturer. We make at Bharat Diamond Bourse and sell direct, which removes the manufacturer margin, the distributor margin and the retail margin from the same piece. It also means that when you ask us a question about how something is made, you are asking the people who will make it rather than the people who ordered it in.
What you give up buying this way is genuine and you should weigh it: there is no showroom full of finished pieces to try on this afternoon, and a custom piece takes about two weeks rather than being handed over in a bag today. If you need something in your hand by the weekend, a retailer is the right answer and we will tell you so.
The one comparison that is worth running whoever you buy from: ask for the certificate number before you agree a price, and check it on the issuing laboratory's own website. IGI, GIA and HRD all publish free verification. A stone described as certified without a number you can look up is not a comparison you can actually make.
If you are shortlisting, send us the quote you have been given and what it is for. We will tell you honestly whether it is a fair price — including when it is, which happens more often than you would expect.
Comparing a family jeweller
Most of Mumbai's best-known jewellery names are family businesses two or three generations deep, and the thing they genuinely sell alongside the jewellery is trust. If your family has bought from the same jeweller in Dadar or Girgaon for forty years, that relationship is worth something real and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What is worth knowing is that almost none of them manufacture at scale any more. The pieces in the case are bought in finished from manufacturers in Bharat Diamond Bourse and Zaveri Bazaar — often from the same few workshops, sometimes from ours. So the stone in a family jeweller's case and the stone in ours frequently started in the same place. What differs is how many margins sit between it and you.
Where a family jeweller wins: you can walk in this afternoon, hold ten pieces, and take one home. Where we win: price on the same specification, and the ability to change a design before it is made rather than picking from what is already in stock.
Comparing a national chain
A national chain is a different comparison again. You are paying for a supply chain that reaches hundreds of stores, national advertising, and the certainty that the branch in Andheri will honour what the branch in Pune sold you. For a lot of buyers that certainty is worth the premium, and it is a legitimate reason to choose one.
The trade-off is that chain pricing has to cover all of that, and it is fairly uniform because it has to be. There is not much room to negotiate on a piece that has to be priced the same in forty cities. A manufacturer quoting one piece at a time has more room, because the only costs in the number are the stone, the metal and the making.
One practical note when comparing chains: check whether the certificate is from IGI, GIA or HRD, and whether the report number is inscribed on the stone. Some in-house certification exists in this market and it is not the same thing as an independent laboratory report.
Comparing an online seller
Online-only sellers sit closest to us on price, because they have removed the showroom too. The question worth asking them is who actually makes the piece. Several of the larger Indian online jewellery brands are marketing and logistics operations placing orders with manufacturers — which is fine, but it means there is still a margin in the chain that a direct manufacturer does not have.
The other thing worth checking online is whether you are buying a photographed piece or a rendered one. A render will always look better than the piece. We send photographs and video of your actual piece at stages during making, before anything is finished.
Common questions
- Why is your price different from a showroom's for the same stone?
- Because the margins stacked on top of it are different, not because the stone is. A retailer buys the finished piece from a manufacturer and adds a margin covering rent, staff and unsold stock. We are the manufacturer, so that layer does not exist — for the same certified specification that usually works out to 20–30% less than a showroom price. Compare the certificate numbers and the making charges and you will see where the difference actually sits.
- Can I see the pieces before buying?
- Yes — we are at Bharat Diamond Bourse and you are welcome to visit, though it is an appointment rather than a walk-in showroom. Most people do the whole thing on WhatsApp and come in once to collect.
- Are you lower-priced than everyone?
- Not than everyone, and anyone claiming that is guessing. Against a showroom selling the same certified specification we are usually 20–30% lower, because there is one less margin in the chain — that is structural, not a promotion. Against another manufacturer selling direct, we compete on making quality and on whether we tell you the truth about trade-offs.
- Do you make pieces for other jewellers in Mumbai?
- We manufacture, and manufacturers in this city supply retailers — that is how the trade works. We will not discuss who we supply, and you should be sceptical of any manufacturer who would. The relevant point for you is that buying from a manufacturer directly removes a margin, whoever else they sell to.
- Is buying direct riskier than buying from a known name?
- The protections are the same ones you should be using anywhere: an independent certificate with a report number you verify yourself, a written quote that separates stone, metal and making charge, and a piece you approve before it is finished. A well-known name is not a substitute for any of those, and a small manufacturer providing all three is not more risky for being small.
- Can you match a price I have been quoted?
- Sometimes, and sometimes the honest answer is that the other quote is good and you should take it. Send us the specification rather than just the number — a quote that looks lower often has a lower cut grade or lighter metal in it, and that is worth knowing before you decide either way.
- How do I compare two quotes properly?
- Line up four things: the certificate number and issuing lab, the cut grade, the metal weight and karat, and the making charge stated separately. Two quotes that look far apart usually differ on cut grade or making charge rather than on carat weight, which is the number people compare first.
